Individual Instruction

People choose individual instruction for a variety of reasons.  It might be as simple as wanting something different than their current class is offering. Some other reasons to explore private instruction could include:

  • An interest in some topic you'd like to pursue in greater depth.
  • Some assistance with a particular practice.
  • Develop a stronger teacher-student relationship.

And some students just prefer working with a teacher one-on-one.  This personal approach allows a student to share more about his or her goals, to converse about the impact of a particular practice, to ask more questions, receive more hands-on assists, etc.

On the other hand, some students really appreciate the energy of practicing in a group.  It’s nice to meet other people with similar interests, to chat a bit before class, to be touched by someone else’s question, or someone else’s experience.  Many people comment on the support they feel from the group’s collective energy during practice.

Lastly, private lessons don't have to be just for one person. You might want to explore private lessons as a way to spend some focused time with a friend or even a couple of friends. You can share your private lesson with up to three other people at the same price. And if you want to include more people and make it a private class, we would be happy to talk with you about that, as well.

Private instruction or yoga therapy?

As described above, private instruction focuses on providing personal support as you explore a particular topic or personal interest at a deeper level.

Yoga Therapy is remediation.  You would choose this way of working with your instructor if you are experiencing distress on a physical, mental or emotional level, and want to learn about yoga’s approach to restoring balance in your system.
