Teachers and Therapists

John LeMunyon, LMT. E-RYT500

John LeMunyon is co-owner of Heartwood Yoga and has been teaching yoga at Heartwood for the past 15 years.  His humorous tales of yoga lore and philosophy invite students to laugh, relax, and inevitably, to be touched by the way these stories speak to the truth of their own lives.  Yoga with John readily takes students’ relationship with yoga off the mat and into the realm of daily life.

On the mat, in class, John’s instruction intends to take students beyond the popular conception of yoga as something you do with your body into the realization that yoga is a state of mind you can learn to experience with the help of your body.  His classes are rich opportunities to feel, and through feeling, to be present, and through being present, to know oneself as the spark of the Divine we all are.

John received his teaching certification from the Esther Myers Teacher Training Program and is registered with the Yoga Alliance at the ERYT-500 hour level.

Kate Tremblay, LMT, E-RYT500

Kate Tremblay is co-owner of Heartwood Yoga and has been teaching at Heartwood for the past 15 years.  Her style of instruction is guided by one aim:  that her students become confident and creative enough in their practice that they can wisely choose the yoga techniques that most support and uplift their whole, unique being - body, mind and spirit.

Kate welcomes students to deepen their personal approach to yoga through private lessons, occasionally or regularly.   These lessons offer a unique opportunity to discuss aspects of classroom practice that raise questions, but also to tailor a practice to a student’s life at a given point in time.

Kate received her teaching certification from the Esther Myers School of Yoga and is registered with the Yoga Alliance at the ERYT-500 hour level.

Lauren Kilpatrick, LMT, RYT200

“I attended my first introductory yoga class at Heartwood over seven years ago.  During that first class, I knew I’d found something important:  a connection to a depth of myself I simply wasn't accustomed to reaching.  During my seven years of study and practice at heartwood, I found the structure of a well-constructed yoga class, with its skillful movements, silence, and inner inquiry, to consistently unveil a quiet, calm center where my self esteem and wisdom reside.

It’s been a gift to learn how to enter that place, a gift I’d like to share with others.  My current work seems to focus on expanding my understanding of the philosophy and science of yoga and I’m interested in acting as a guide for students who wish to discover their own relationship to this ancient practice."

Lauren is an Alabama licensed massage therapist, practicing in the Birmingham area since 2005.  She is a graduate of Heartwood’s Yoga Teacher Training program and she is a registered yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance™ at the 200 hour level.

Angie Parmer, RYT200

“I have been studying yoga for many years.  Though I initially sought yoga as a remedy for physical tension, I was drawn to the quiet depth and dignity of the practice.  I found it to be a path to healing and transformation that I could not verbalize, but could only experience through practice.  My experiences with yoga continue to teach me the importance of presence, stillness, and spaciousness in my daily life, and I find through my practice, a greater sense of balance in all things.  I have been a student of Heartwood for several years, and I find that my teaching is a reflection of that study.

My personal pursuits with yoga at this point include understanding more about yoga as therapy, yoga as a ‘flow’ experience, and the applications of yoga in musical performance.”

Angie is a native Alabamian and a 2009 graduate of the Birmingham Yoga Teacher Training program.  She holds degrees in music education, vocal performance, and mental health social work.  She has been teaching yoga to adults and children for two years and is a certified Yoga Alliance instructor at the 200- hour level.
